WALK REPORT MEERBROOK, JANUARY 7th 2007 |
|
Woke up at 7.10am – a good job that I had packed up sandwiches from the night before. I can’t remember getting up so late in all my years as a club member with the Oadby- perhaps it was an omen! The weather forecast for the day was grim but when 17 of us got off the coach close to the top of Axe Edge it was windy but wasn’t actually raining. The views of the surrounding countryside were much better than the weather forecast had suggested. Our coffee break was taken close to’ Three Shires Head’ and throughout our lunch break, which was taken in some woods, it stayed relatively dry. We took a deviation to ‘Ludds Church’ from Gradbach youth hostel up a steep path- it was well worth the climb. Some of our party had never been there before and found it very interesting. After lunch we went up onto the ‘Roaches’ but the mist had come down and the weather turned quite miserable. Worse was to come because the fields on our way back to Meerbrook were so muddy it was difficult to stand let alone walk. We were all looking forward to seeing the coach on arrival at ‘The Lazy Trout’ but panic stations- it was nowhere to be seen! We later found out the driver had gone to pick up Jane who had injured her ankle! Therefore it was straight into the pub for a pint before a quick change and we departed from Meerbrook at 5pm. Thanks to Adam for a memorable walk and I hope that Jane’s ankle is now on the mend. Peter Tanner
